Peter Miles Fulfills His Writing Dream after Retirement

The inspiration to write began when he was younger but it took about half a century later before Xlibris author Peter Miles decided to bring his dream to fruition. The retired professor has published his short story collection Nandroth and  sci-fi novel Eye of the Beholder through Xlibris.

Xlibris Book Eye of the Beholder
“EYE OF THE BEHOLDER is a collection of short stories about everyday life – but with a twist,” says Xlibris Author Peter Miles.

Eye of the Beholder was said to interweave the mundane with the marvelous, the real and the romantic and the worldly with the whimsical. This sneak preview is only the tip of the iceberg. Although Peter shows us merely a glimpse of his work and his writer self, he projects a mystery of a reclusive writer whose work speaks volumes.

About the author

Peter Miles is a retired agricultural scientist specialising in the biochemical and physiological interaction of insects and plants.  I have had published 98 scientific articles, but this is my first adventure in fiction.

A wanderlust, the author has traveled across Europe, Africa, Australia and USA. These travels have also inspired his writing. He also holds a master’s degree from Rhodes University, South Africa and a Ph.D. from The University of Cambridge, U.K. He was an Associate Professor of Entomology and Dean of Agricultural Sciences at the University of Adelaide, and a Professor of Zoology and Dean of Natural Sciences at the University of Zambia.

Literary influences

I have always enjoyed science fiction from H.G. Wells, Conan Doyle to Philip Dick and beyond.

About his books

NANDROTH is about the mind-transport of a computer scientist to a distant planet where the humanoid, medieval inhabitants must battle for survival against robotic artificial intelligence.

Xlibris Book Nandroth
Sci-fi novel “Nandroth” by Xlibris Author Peter Miles

EYE OF THE BEHOLDER is a collection of short stories about everyday life – but with a twist.

SWAN PRINCE is a pure fantasy about shape-shifting magic and the search for true love.

Writing inspiration

Inspiration began some 50 years ago, but I had to wait for my retirement to begin to write them down in full.

Self-publishing experience

Peter says his favorite part of the self-publishing experience is seeing my work in print; otherwise none.

Advice to aspiring authors
