Xlibris Author| David Fly, My Life Under the Big Top Pt. 2

Xlibris returns with Rev. David Fly, author of My Life Under the Big Top.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE THE BOOK AND HOW LONG DID IT TAKE?

Xlibris Author| Rev. David Fly, My Life Under the Big TopI actually began writing a eulogy for the circus because I was grieving the closing of Ringling Brothers/Barnum and Bailey Circus. As I did, I found myself wanting to tell my own story and, thus, the memoir. It took only three months to write, but had been a part of my presentations for some time. I had done a number of retreats titled “The Clown and the Christian.” So, the writing came easily.

MESSAGE TO READERS

Beware of taking yourself too seriously — and also — beware of not taking yourself seriously enough! There is an old Jewish saying that goes: “Every person should wear pants with two pockets. In one there should be a note that reads: ‘I am but dust and ashes.’ In the other, a note that reads, ‘For me the universe was created!'”

ANY EVENTS PLANNED? ANY ACCOLADES?

Xlibris Author| Rev. David Fly, My Life Under the Big TopAt this point, no events are planned. However, I have plans to announce this on my Facebook page which is widely read, offer book readings and signings to many Episcopal churches who know my work and have invited me in the past. We also plan a launch party sometime in September. The most wonderful accolade I have received so far is the comment by the Right Reverend Hays H. Rockwell, who was the Ninth Bishop of the Diocese of Missouri.

“David Fly is fluent in the language of the lighthearted. He knows, as far too few in his calling know, that you can be serious without being solemn. He connects with us in a rich, entertaining and humorous way that points as well to joy which lifts our hearts and spirits. David knows well, as Peter Berger has said, about the ‘comic relief of redemption’ and he Is fluent in its vocabulary.”

FAVORITE PART OF PUBLISHING EXPERIENCE WITH XLIBRIS

First of all, the attention paid to me as author and the guidance throughout the process. I was impressed and a bit awed that the whole process from signing the contact to being near publication has taken less than a month!
