4. Hire an Editor

If you are serious about your work then hire an editor, especially if you are an indie author. Most (okay all) of the authors I know are indie authors. Connecting with other authors is a great way to learn about editors that are out there. I have been fortunate enough to have found not only an editor but a mentor as well. You may not get that with every editor, but a good editor is worth their weight in gold. Remember, you want to present your readers with the best possible version of your work. Find an editor that you can work with and enjoy the process.

5. Let Your Imagination Run Wild

Lastly, and probably most importantly, be yourself and let your imagination run wild. Don’t try to write the next Harry Potter, Game of Thrones or Hunger Games. They’ve already been written. Write the story that YOU want to write. Write the story that has been inside of your head and heart and are bursting to get out and onto a page. If your story and a book you admire happen to be in the same genre that’s cool, but let your story speak for itself. Enjoy the process and enjoy telling your story. There is an audience out there for it.

About Cross Roads

Cross Roads is the first book in a trilogy that tells the story of Shawna, a 16-year-old homeless girl who lives in New York City. She has long since learned how to survive on the mean streets of the city, but things take a turn for the worse when thugs with red glowing eyes try to kill her. She is rescued by Decker, an expert agent and member of a covert organization known as the Acolytes. Shawna agrees to go with him and begins an intense training regimen in order to join their ranks. She begins to build a new life with a new home and new friends. Meanwhile, the red-eyed assassins are still hot on her trail and determined to kill her. With her life and the life of everyone she has grown to care for on the line, Shawna must put her new training to the test.

About the Author

I am a native New Yorker and reside in Westchester County with my family and our highly energetic dog, Jovi. I’ve been writing since I was about eight years old when I created my very first comic strip. From there I moved onto short stories and soon full novels. My debut novel, Cross Roads, was truly a labor of love. Currently, I am putting the final touches on its sequel and getting started on some other writing projects as well.

Cross Roads has been awarded the the 2015 Pinnacle Book Achievement Award for Best Adventure, 2015 Next Generation Indie Book Award Finalist for First Novel, and the 2015 New Apple Summer E-Book Award in the category of Action Adventure.

The next book in the Cross Roads trilogy will be released soon (or as soon as my editor gives me the thumbs up) so follow me for more information!
