The 3 catalysts to jumpstart your writing

 1. Habitat

The author says that in anything you do, environment is key as it dictates behavior.

It’s about creating a space where your body knows what to do on a subconscious and psychological level. Knowing how to enter these states in specific spaces is pure power.

He adds that he has various spaces that inspire him to create, analyze, and sustain inspiration, namely:

Creative space – a room with lots of window symbolizing freedom to create.

Analytical space – a secret place where he is free from distraction, such as his phone and the Internet. He goes here to realign efforts if I’ve gotten off-track.

Energy space – a room bathed in sunlight and has a vision board, scarce furniture, and pillows everywhere.

In this space I journal, meditate, hangout with friends, listen to music, dance, and basically re-connect with the kid I have always been. This allows me to go into my other two spaces feeling free and light.

2. Habit

He cites influential innovators who have stuck to a daily routine that contributed to their success.

Richard Branson wakes up at 5:45 a.m., and Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, wakes up around 4:00 a.m.

Warren Buffett, Arianna Huffington, and Bill Gates all aim for around 7 hours of sleep each night, as does Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon.

However, he warns against biting off more than you can chew. Try not to form multiple habits at the same time, as you may not be able to sustain them and burn out eventually. Habits, he adds, are all about consistency.

3. Hacks

They can be coffee, music, short breaks in between tasks, to-do lists, and whatever works for you. Perhaps the most important hack he offers is to face your fear.

Each and every day I try do something I fear – every single day. Why? It gets my heart beating and reminds me I’m alive. I love feeling alive.
