Nothing says you’re a writer more than seeing your name on the copy of your published book. Getting published may not be your ultimate goal but it could be one of the turning points in your writing career.
With so many publishing options available for today’s writers, which one do you take?

To guide aspiring authors in their publishing journey, Author Solutions vice-president of marketing Keith Ogorek presented his “Four Paths to Publishing” at an event organized by the Publishers + Writers San Diego (PWSD) held at the Encinitas Community Center, California, US, on February 28, 2015.
“I think their goals and mine align well—to make the publishing options more readily understood and more accessible to anyone who has a book in them,” Keith said.
PWSD is a non-profit trade organization established in 1994 and aimed at “helping independent publishers and authors understand the many facets of the industry and publish as successfully as possible.” The group also promotes professional standards in the publishing business and organizes forums about the latest developments in the industry.
Author Solutions, the self-publishing arm of Penguin Random House, is the parent company of Xlibris. With nearly two decades’ experience, Xlibris has helped over 40,000 authors publish more than 60,000 titles.
Prior to the PWSD event, Keith also spoke at the Build Your Blog 2015 conference at the Little America Hotel, Salt Lake City in Utah on February 21. As blogging has become a popular medium among many writers to share and market their literary work online, the event became an opportune venue for today’s digital wordsmiths.
“Blogging and supported self-publishing have grown substantially over the past few years. As a result, we’ve seen more and more bloggers begin to utilize self-publishing to turn their blog content into books,” Keith noted. “I look forward to helping bloggers at this conference better understand their options so they can make the best decision based on their publishing goals,” he added.
More than two dozen bloggers and 700 attendees gathered at the two-day conference, which covered beginner, intermediate, and advanced blogging lectures.
