Professional Editing Services Gaining More Popularity

With the rise of the self-publishing industry, more and more self-published authors are seeing the need for another set of eyes, preferably of professional editors.

More self-published authors are realizing the importance of professional editing services.

Learned Publishing, a quarterly journal of the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers, revealed that 59% of self-pubbed authors have required the services of a professional editor at some point.

“There is evidence to suggest a growing awareness among self-publishing authors that professional editing is an essential component for increasing the chance that their work will sell,” the authors noted.

Publishing startup company Reedsy, which connects self-published authors to professional editors, observed that the boost of self-publishing has also seen an influx of would-be authors and poorly written books.

“There’s a growing recognition that in order to cut through the noise there needs to be more emphasis on producing a professional product, both in design and editorial standards,” said Reedsy co-founder Ricardo Fayet.
