Xlibris Introduces Author Zalina Abdul Aziz a.k.a. ninotaziz – Part 2

ninotaziz is an active member of international poetry blogospheres, including The Magpie Tales, Poets United, Haiku Heights and The dVerse Bar. Her poem To Be Human was selected to be included in the Poets United Anthology’s “Thoughts That Breathe” in 2010. She won second place in the poetry competition by One Stop Poetry in 2011. In 2013, her poems The Unknown Frontier, Quand Je Suis Avec Vou’ and The Icarus Quandary have been included in the dVerse anthology entitled “The dVerse Anthology, Voices of Contemporary World Poetry.”

Xlibris author ninotaziz featured on Malaysian paper

In the upcoming months, ninotaziz is gearing up on her joint campaign #SaySomething Nice – A Hikayat A Day in conjunction with the National Day Celebrations. This campaign emphasizes the role of Hikayat and folklores to promote unity in a multicultural country. In fact, at ICAF III, national identity and unity were among the main objectives stipulated.

Upcoming book projects include Kembara Sastera Manuskrip Melayu, Ratu Nusantara and From the Wayang Kulit. ninotaziz also writes fiction and her first novel, NAGA – A  Legend of Tasik Chini has received favorable reviews locally and abroad. Her second novel entitled Onangkiu – The Warrior Princess of Gellangui was awarded the Calistro Prize 2012. She is now working on her third novel, SITI.

ninotaziz’s  Mission

  • to champion Malay Hikayat and Heritage through creative retelling of Malay Hikayat in English, thus making them readily available for the international market
  • to provide content on Malay Hikayat and Heritage for entertainment and new media
  • to spur theatre and dance, cultural music like “gamelan” and “angklong” based on Hikayat and Legends
  • to team up with other writers and create awareness on Malay Hikayat and Heritage

Working with universities, artists and designers, ninotaziz has been providing content and services over the last seven years to Utusan Publishers Sdn Bhd, The National Arts and Culture Department, Institute of Malay World and Civilisation UKM, UiTM and advertising agencies, among others. She has also collaborated and written for the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, TERAJU, the NAM Institute of Empowerment of Women, the National Archives, the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, the British Council, the American Embassy, Malaysia Airlines, and other various organizations.
