Xlibris author MJ Domet reveals more about her craft, dreams, and noble cause to help others through her book.
Spreading the love and dreaming big
The learning that has taken place on this journey far surpasses any of the expense or inexperienced marketing moves I may have made initially. In fact, I have learned so much that I am now teaching writing workshops to aspiring authors. The series of ten workshops I have developed include topics such as The Power Of Your Words: Using Emotion In Your Writing and Self vs. Traditional Publishing. After spending three months this past summer travelling in Canada and teaching these workshops in libraries across the country, I am getting additional requests to present them in new venues, as well as being asked to come back to some of the places I have already visited.
I have given books away, signed books in bookstores, been interviewed on local and blog talk radio, spent money on advertising both through Xlibris and on my own, entered contests, attended trade shows and spoke on more than a few stages. Although completely out of my comfort zone at times, my belief in my message inspired me to ramp up the courage. And, no surprise here, my bubble expanded and my confidence grew. The bottom line is that you have to get out there! One of the questions I ask my library groups is “Did you know who I was before you signed up for this class?” Consistently the answer is “No”. Now the majority of them are signed up for my newsletter and blog and will be among the first to get advance notice about my next book.
My passion for helping others to succeed at whatever they desire is the catalyst which moves me to share my knowledge. Assisting others is my motivation. I help them on their journey by giving them the wisdom that I have acquired on my own. By inspiring others through words- printed or verbalized- I am following my dreams by helping them with theirs. The fact that I have a best-selling, multi-award winning book that was self-published gives me credibility and shows others that dreams do come true.
Having a dream is important but believing that you are worthy of your dream is what makes it a reality. When you believe in yourself and your work, the transparency of your passion surrounds you, radiating out to others while communicating to them that they too can have a dream and watch it unfold until it is as big or bigger than they may have imagined.
That first step, once taken, becomes the signal that beckons you to the rest of your life!
