Story Inspiration

The idea for my first novel Turn Back Blow came when I saw a Jamaican news clip of two men in Jamaica mistreating a helpless mongrel dog, by using it as bait to capture a crocodile from a section of the Rio Cobre River. I was furious, but I was instantly inspired to write a story against animal cruelty. I knew then and there that I had to do something about what is happening in Jamaica, because I have seen and heard other similar news reports in the country. I realized that I had to write a story that has a profound message, because animal cruelty is not only a problem in Jamaica, but all over the world. My book is not based upon the Rio Cobre incident, but was inspired by it. I created a fictitious story about a group of stray animals in a Jamaican community who joined forces with a handicapped boy to fight against a bunch of human animal abusers in the community that they live.

Writing On Despite Hurdles

True to his craft, Roger managed to finish his book regardless of several difficulties he faced while writing the story.

Turn Back Blow took me almost two years to write because during the writing process, I had gone through a second surgery on my ankle, a break up, and a death in my family. (while studying the Meisner and method acting technique at two prominent acting schools in Hollywood.)

Thankful for Self-Publishing with Xlibris

I am grateful to Xlibris who offered upcoming authors like me an opportunity to have my book published so that the world can read my work, and help spread the message about animal cruelty. Turn back Blow was written from my heart, and I know it will touch lots of people’s heart all over the world.
