About Your Book and Yourself:

Please briefly describe your book.

Xlibris Publishing| Zeynab Salimova, The Garnet BunchesThe Garnet Bunches, a novel charting the journey of one woman and her family through hard trials to find peace and dignity in a new land – a story reflecting the life of the people in Azerbaijan.

In The Garnet Bunches I tell a parallel romantic stories alongside terrifying stories of betrayal and social injustice. In addition, I have also included historical asides, which educate readers about Azerbaijan’s rich culture that is an amazing combination of mysterious, magical East and West.

The Garnet Bunches first tells about the expanses of Azerbaijan and its people, then carries the readers to America, where the almost collapsed Gunel family and her husband regains solidity and strength as they are being persecuted by the corrupt judicial system of their country. Both of them fell through hard trials, but both coped with dignity.

I think that in a modern society where people are becoming more and more isolated, my book can remind people about the need to keep the strength of a family ship. This should not be forgotten in any case. Especially, if the human plans are to reach the desired shores.

The book captivates readers with a compelling narrative that reflects my love for my home country and tells about the life of real heroes who showed their indomitable spirit.

The Garnet Bunches is unique due to the events described in the book that existed in the past, now, and will remain in the future. Also, not all books are imbued with love for the home country and not all tell about the life of real heroes, all the events described experienced on themselves. Therefore, I would like the reader to evaluate the book comprehensively.

Who is the author “behind” the book?

Since my childhood I remember my father always had business trips because of his service. He always brought souvenirs along with the interesting and exciting stories about the countries that he had visited. After the boarders were open, and we, me and my younger brother, grew up, my family started travelling all together. And I loved it so much, it was amazing to see different countries and explore their cultures and traditions.

Maybe that was the reason why I decided to relate my future career with the travel business. When I graduated from the university, I started working in travel agency, then in an airline. While I was working,  I was accepted to an MBA prog+ram that I successfully graduated in 2003. I was working and studying at the same time. Afterwards, I opened my own travel agency, and started writing the dissertation, under the supervision of Ziyad Samedzade, Academician. After years of challenging and exciting path, I finally earned a PhD in 2011, by this time Azerbaijan Turizm Institute had already invited me to teach.

My writing journey started when I was at the elementary school, I was writing poems. After a pause for six years, I started to write again. My first book of lyrical poems was published in 2001. The second book was published with the difference in four years. My books received very positive reviews ƒrom Associate Professors of the Department of Baku Slavic University,  Bella Akhundova, PhD and Elmira Aleskerova, PhD , journalist and the chief editor of the republican newspaper Asif Guliyev, and one of the most outstanding Azerbaijani poets Vahid Eziz. In the reviews «..poetry attracts with its sincerity, maiden purity of emotions and experiences…», «philosophical reflections of the poetess, combine the romance and reality».  And in 2006 with an approval of the Chairman of the Union of Azerbaijani Writers, I became a member. My readers will be able to read some of the poems that were included in The Garnet Bunches. Also,  I have experience in writing fantasy stories, one of them is «Up to Miracles. A Stone’s Throw from a Fairy Tale» that was published in Russia.
