Xlibris Publishing is excited to share the news about the last personage to be awarded the Nobel Prize: Bob Dylan, for his contributions to the field of literature. Primarily recognized and popular as a singer and musician, nonetheless Bob Dylan has been awarded the Nobel Prize.

Over the course of a sixty year career in song and song-writing, Bob Dylan has become legend in the field of music. As a musician he has used his gravelly voice to sing about war, heartbreak, death, and moral failures, in manner both melancholic yet full of life. Bob Dylan’s place in history has been more heavily cemented when he was named the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in Literature. Specifically he was awarded for, “having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.”
Sara Danius, a permanent secretary to the Swedish Academy described the choice to name Bob Dylan as not being a difficult decision. According to Danius, Bob Dylan and his works, including both poetry and songs, defied being placed into singular boxes or categories. Further, she compared his body of works to that of Homer and Sappho. The core of the argument for Nobel Prize being awarded to Bob Dylan is that, while he is a singer, much like Homer and Sappho his works are meant to be performed. And in that fashion, much Homer and Sappho, Bob Dylan can be seen as a poet.
A private individual, Bob Dylan has yet to give a public response regarding the Nobel Prize announcement, as of the time of this writing. Bob Dylan’s reclusiveness despite his popularity is well-known, especially as the artist is rarely known to give interviews.

Fellow artists, respected figures in their fields, have expressed their congratulations and support for Bob Dylan most recent achievement, including acclaimed author Salman Rushdie. The author told the Guardian he was “delighted” at Dylan’s win, identifying the Nobel Prize winner’s music as having been an “inspiration” throughout Rushdie’s life.
