Xlibris Publishing is happy to share some news from the Guardian, regarding the 2016 Man Booker prize. Judges for the contest have revealed the longlist of nominations for the Man Booker prize. While most of the thirteen writers come from Britain or the USA, one of writers hails from Canada, while another comes from South Africa.
Among the listed authors are JM Coetzee, a Nobel prize-winner and the first two-time Man Booker winner, Deborah Levy, AL Kennedy, and Elizabeth Strout.

The chair of the judges, one Amanda Foreman coincidentally, considers this year’s Man Booker contest to be an exciting as, “The range of books is broad and the quality extremely high.” She notes that each has inspired deep discussion, impassioned debate, and revaluation of what a novel is and can be.
One entry that has surprised people is the somewhat obscurely known His Bloody Project, a crime thriller from last year, written by Graeme Macrae Burnet. This will be Burnet’s first nomination for the Man Booker prize. While not widely known or reviewed, what critics who have read it describe the novel in glowing praise. Such terms and phrases that have been used to describe His Bloody Project include, “A box of tricks… a truly ingenious thriller…” Amanda Foreman considers the book as one that ‘transcends’ its genre, making for a refreshing reading experience.
76-year-old author JM Coetzee is again nominated, this time for his novel The Schooldays of Jesus, a follow-up to his 2013 novel The Childhood of Jesus. In the past Coetzee has earned the Man Booker prize twice, once for Life & Times of Michael K in 1983, and again with Disgrace in 1999. As Coetzee’s current nomination will not be released until December, the Man Booker judges will be among the few to have read the novel beforehand.
JM Coetzee and Graeme Burnett are but two of the thirteen authors whose books are currently up for the 2016 Man Booker Prize.
