Xlibris Publishing introduces K.M. Winthrop, author of STALKED!
About Your Book and Yourself:
Please briefly describe your book.
STALKED! By K. M. Winthrop.
A Menacing Specter in the Night.
Temporally confined to a wheel chair, Charlotte Manchester was looking forward to trading New York’s ice and snow for a relaxing vacation in sunny Florida. Mark Winsted, her brother’s charismatic young assistant, was all she needed to make her holiday complete. But her plans didn’t include the deranged intruder who is terrorizing her brother’s family with threats and violence. Violence that leads to gruesome ritual murder. Despite her disability, Charlotte searches for clues to the stalkers identity. Her efforts become crucial when she realizes the stalker has chosen her to be his next victim.
Who is the author “behind” the book?
I am a writer of mystery/romance novels. I have also published five additional novels: Summit; Face of the Clowns; The Ruby Caste; Freefall; and Under the Radar. They are all available as Kindle additions.
Which influences have inspired you, with regard to your writing style and your book itself?
My biggest influence is people. I watch people, how they move, how they talk, how they interact with one another. Have you ever watched how a person approaches a chair and sits down? Have you ever watched how families interact with each other at a park or children’s play area? Have you ever listened to how people speak to one another? All of this helps me make my characters more realistic and makes my dialogue sound like real people talking.
What is the one message you would like to convey to your readers about your book?
I have the central character of my book, Charlotte Manchester, temporarily confined to a wheel chair. One of the intentions of my book is to show that disabled persons can contribute despite their disabilities.
Are you working on a sequel to your book?
I am currently working on another mystery story, UNITS, but it is not a sequel. I am also working on a nonfiction text book on clowning, CLOWNS DO IT IN THE ALLEY. My novel UNDER THE RADAR is a sequel to FREEFALL
Are there any events, marketing ideas or promotions planned for your book?
The writers’ guild I belong to has numerous opportunities for me to promote and sell my books. I also have both Facebook and Twitter accounts under my pen name that I can use to promote an interest in me as a writer and, as an extension, in my books.
What was your favorite part of your publishing experience?
Working with cover design, selecting images that, hopefully, will draw a reader to my book.
Finally, what advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Keep a journal. Write something in it every day. If nothing major happened during the day look back in your memory and write a humorous anecdote or something that happened in the past. You can even chronical current events in your journal. During the hurricane we had last year I stepped outside and chronicled the storm every hour. I also write about things my children said or did, stories no one wants to hear now but will be treasured memories in the future.
Also, join a professional writers’ guild if there is one in your area. Even if you’re not published, most guilds will accept an unpublished writer as an apprentice or associate. Associating with published writers is a real learning experience and will keep you motivated.
