Xlibris Publishing returns with Dr. Jeffrey C Fox, author of The Ultimate Guide to Being a Great Police Officer.
Do you have any particular literary influences that have helped you develop in your genre, subject and style?
No not really. All my life I have stuck with non-fiction out of necessity. One of my favorite authors is Eric Metaxas.
What inspired you to write your book, and how long did it take you to finish it?
I spent almost three decades doing police work, teaching police officers, and leading officers. My goal was to help make a positive lasting difference in the communities I served and with every officer I ever worked with. That is the same goal that inspired me to write this book. I want to help each aspiring or current officer be the very best he or she can be and for them to make positive lasting differences in the communities they serve.
It took me about six months to finish the book. However, this was based on thirty plus years of written material from my many years of education, training, teaching, and managing in policing.
What is the one message you would like to convey to your readers?
Policing remains at the forefront of modern society. Police are the most visible agents of the government and have the ability to positively or negatively impact any given citizen. Each officer must be as professional as possible in order to serve the public and work in an increasingly complex world.
This book offers a deep blend of the most useful and impactful information one will learn when melding police academy training with the core academic courses offered in a criminal justice degree. To my knowledge, there are no books on the market that blends core academic topics with foundational police academy training material. The book is filled with real world examples of police work.
Are you working on a sequel to your book?
There was actually a prequel if you will. The Ultimate Guide to Excellent Teaching and Training – Face to Face and Online. There is a sequel coming late next year or early next year. That will be title “The Ultimate Guide to Excellent Public Safety Leadership and Management.” Several more Ultimate Guide books are in the works as well.
Are there any events, marketing ideas or promotions planned for your book? Please feel free to mention any accolades you have received.
I teach for eight universities and I list my books in my biography but I do not actively try to get my students to purchase them. I also do a good number of webinars with several professional associations. Finally, I do email marketing to my target audience.
What was your favorite part of your publishing experience, overall and with Xlibris?
This is my second book with Xlibris. Both times I did a lot of comparison and Xlibris came out on top in all categories I was looking at. My favorite part of the process with Xlibris is that they are extremely prompt in everything they do.
Finally, what advice would you give to aspiring authors?
My advice is to jump on in, the water’s fine. Make sure your heart is in it. Stay the course and stay focused.
